IDENTIFYING AND PREPARING THE NEXT GENERATION OF SENIOR LEADERS TO ADAPT AND DRIVE THE BUSINESS FORWARD

THE CHALLENGE

Toyota Financial Services approached Morgan Philips to provide in-depth insight to identify where their current and future talent was within the business, especially across middle and senior management cohorts. Not having this visibility regarding talent benchstrength was impacting their ability to effectively succession plan. In addition, they needed to understand their leadership capability in the context of new and emerging challenges facing the organisation.

HOW WE HELPED

The first step of our solution was to create and design a model to identify ability, aspiration and agility. This was done by combining Toyota’s existing framework and the Morgan Philips talent framework to importantly provide one, simplified leadership behavioural framework for the organisation. The second step was to create a Talent Centre design that supported people to take ownership of their own development. The design included self-reflection on personal strengths and development areas, psychometric feedback, a personal SWOT presentation as well as various individual and group business simulation activities. Following each centre, participants were provided with a 1:1 feedback session as well as a Strategic Talent Review with the participant, their line manager and a Morgan Philips consultant to create concrete action plans and milestones for ongoing development activities.

THE IMPACT

The new design supports participants to take ownership of their development – a key requirement for Toyota Financial Services - and importantly, they are provided the deep insight required to produce a tailored Personal Development Plan. In addition to the value provided at an individual level, the organisation received the data required to understand leadership capability and potential across the business. This enabled effective succession planning, targeted learning and development support and increased engagement - all while helping to unlock the full potential of individuals and teams across the organisation.
